The hotel is quite a good location and very close to the train station. The room is very small but it’s enough for one person. I did kind of struggle to open my luggage. It’s very quiet and I slept well. I only had one issue and for this reason I wouldn’t consider booking with this hotel again. When I arrived to check in it was around 8am. The staff at the desk were very kind. I didn’t want to check in early but I wanted to drop my bags off. At this point, the hotel manager (a older lady with glasses came) and said in a sharp tone that check in is at 3pm. I knew this and this was okay. I felt her tone was quite rude and accusatory. It’s my second visit to Japan and up until now I’ve had no issue here and everyone has been very friendly. I was surprised that someone working in the hotel industry doesn’t know how to speak in an appropriate tone while dealing with customers. I did spend money to stay here and do expect a certain level of service. The fact that you can speak English does not automatically equal good customer service. I suggest that you watch the tone you speak in. In addition to this, I didn’t get a baggage tag so I waited and the other staff member called the lady back. She said it was okay and after I left I could hear them giggling at the counter. It wasn’t a major issue as I know the majority of Japanese people are very friendly and I’ve had a great time in this country. I’m moving on to Kyoto next and I was considering to book this hotel chain there but the experience has put me off.

This hotel recently changed ownership and the reviews are all positive, so we made the mistake of assuming it would be ‘new’. The condition of the room was not acceptable. The bed was lumpy and the pillows were literally falling apart. The stuffing was half missing and what was left was clumped up into little balls inside the pillow. We asked for them to be switched and received new ones that were just as bad and impossible to sleep on. Everything looked and felt OLD. Other issues: -Coffee, tea and amenities are available at the front desk, which is good, but the front desk staff stares at you as if they have a problem with you taking anything when you do try to grab a coffee or shampoo. -Hotel rooms are small in Tokyo (totally fine, this was our 6th time in the city and we're used to it) but there is no need to clutter a tiny room with a massage table (why???), humidifier, extra robes… simply make these items available at the front desk for those who need them. -If you are arriving by public transport, do a lot of research before and do not trust the map they provide. The train and metro stations cross at this stop and you need to search for the exit from JR, not the metro, to get to the hotel. -Checkout is at 10am (we travel regularly and have never seen a hotel demand extra payment to checkout at 11am.)

We booked the top floor with the view of Tokyo Tower. The room is only 18 sqm, so we don’t recommend it to those who values room space more than anything else. This hotel has 24 hr reception and they can all speak fairly good English. Room service is provided daily. The hotel has its own breakfast lounge on 2nd floor. The highlight of this hotel is the location. It’s 3-5 mins walk from the Shimbashi train station, which is one of the central stations in Tokyo. You can get to most places in one ride (no transfers). The train station is running 24 hrs, and only 23 mins train ride from Haneda airport. The surrounding area of the hotel is one of the drinking streets in Tokyo. If you feel like a relaxing night near the hotel, you can literally walk 1-2 mins and get into one of the local small restaurants. You can find all types of food in Shimbashi, and most of them open till midnight. The most amazing thing is that every restaurant here has someone who can speak English!! No language barriers at all!! In short, it’s a little sweet hotel in the central Tokyo, and we’d love to come back to it on our next trip.

The hotel is located just few steps away from Shimbashi Subway station and a walking distance from major office buildings in Tokyo. In the surrounding you can find many local and international restaurants, dozens of coffee shops inc. Starbucks just next to the hotel and convenience stores like Lawson's just next to the lobby. It is also a walking distance from Tokyo Tower. From cons: the rooms are quite small and the desk is a bit to shallow to allow for comfortable work with laptop. Breakfast are very tasty, but the choice is very limited.

The location of this hotel is only a 5 minutes walk from Shimbashi station provided you exit from the Karasumori exit. On exiting, you will see a traffic junction and an entertainment cum pachinko building with the sign TOPS. Follow the main road, go pass TOPS and after about 30metres or so, look to your left and you will see an open concrete square(Sakurada park) with a mini athletics track round it. Head across the square and you will see Tsutaya book cafe, Lawson convenience store next to it and the distinctive red logo of Hotel Sunroute. Go into Lawson and exit through its back door and you will find yourself at the lobby of the hotel. Staff were resourceful with information and tried their best to get messages across even though communication was an issue. Had a pleasant surprise as I was given an early check-in about two hours before the schedule time which is rather unusual in Tokyo. The single room I had was neat and clean but limited with hardly much space to manoeuvre nor allowance for luggages. Bed was comfortable and toiletries were of good quality. Soundproofing was good with not much disturbance and had a good night's sleep. Did not eat at the hotel but food is of the least concern as there are heaps of and all kinds of eateries all round. High end shopping at Ginza is only a 10 minutes walk away while commuting to Odaiba and the new fish market at Toyosu is a breeze as the Yurikamome line is just round the corner. Checking out was efficient and completed in less than a minute with the self automated check-out machine at the lobby. If room space is not an issue, Hotel Sunroute is highly recommended for its reasonable pricing, wonderful location, plentiful food options around the hotel, flexibility in checking-in and an accommodative and helpful staff. Without a doubt, would stay again if i happen to be in Shimbashi.
